These workshops are for all levels. You must know your foundational patterns: left and right side passes, sugar push, sugar tuck, basic whip, free spin, left side spinning pass.

  • Saturday May 23 Musicality Workshops

    • Dance Your Dance Solo – 10:00-11:30am

    • Dance Your Dance Together – 11:45am–1:15pm

  • Sunday May 24 All-Levels Workshops

    • Qualities of Movement – All Levels – 10:15-11:45am

    • Blues Musicality – All Levels – 12:00-1:30pm

    • Intro class with Jess – 1:30-2:15pm

    • Social Dance – 2:15-4:30pm

Cost

  • Saturday May 23 Musicality Workshops

    • Before May 4: $30 for one; $50 for both

    • After May 4: $40 for one; $70 for both

      *This does not include the social dance.

  • Sunday May 24 All-Levels Workshops (social dance included with both workshops)

    • Before May 4: $45 for one; $80 for both

    • After May 4: $55 for one; $100 for both

      *Social dance included if you sign up for both workshops

  • Weekend Pass (includes one or both Saturday musicality workshops, both Sunday workshops, and social dance)

    • Before May 4: $100 with one styling workshop; $120 with both musicality workshops

    • After May 4: $120 with one styling workshop; $140 with both musicality workshops

  • Social Dance Only: The cost of the social dance is $15 (or $10 if travelling more than 40 km one way). It’s free if this is your first time at one of our dances! Includes intro lesson and no registration is needed.

About Maria Ford:

Maria Ford is a veteran Ottawa-based West Coast Swing community leader, All-Star, and master instructor. She has co-choreographed and performed winning routines, including team and Rising Star divisions. She founded Smoothstyle Dance Studio in 2006, providing group and private instruction. From 2014 – 2020, she recruited, trained, and oversaw a team of WCS instructors and DJs and launched Ottawa’s first weekly public WCS event featuring progressive syllabus and social dancing.

Maria is also a Professional/Open Hustle level dancer and a skilled social dancer in Salsa, Kizomba, Blues, and various styles of Swing. Today, she focuses on providing high-quality instruction and innovative West Coast Swing teacher team training. Maria is skilled in and gives equal support to both Lead and Follow roles. She is known for building strong technical foundations, quality of movement, troubleshooting, excellence in teaching, and generous social dancing.
